Trades Academy BBQ Tables

The Trades Academy at Tamaki College have been really busy recently making tables to go around the grounds at school. They look great and are very popular with the students as they give them lots more places to sit during interval and lunch times.

Here is some information about the Construction Trades Academy.

BConstructive are hands on programmes that lead to two qualifications; BCATS Level1 and BCATS Level2. They are innovative, practical and multi-disciplinary programmes for students, providing them with the skills and knowledge to springboard into any career in the construction industry.

The BConstructive programmes are primarily workshop based. Rather than focusing on any one trade the programmes build skills and an understanding of all trades in the construction industry. They also develop literacy, numeracy and communication skills and have close links with the NCEA and the Technology curriculum.

There are two qualifications currently available. These may be offered at senior secondary school or at polytechnics and private training establishments. All of the resources are available on line, free of charge.

The full qualification documents can be viewed on the NZQA website using the link below:

Students who participate in the BConstructive programme can go on to consider apprenticeships in a variety of trades such as: building, construction, plumbing, drainlaying, roofing, gasfitting, painting and decorating, infrastructure, flooring and joinery. The programme also provides a good base for students who would like to enter other related areas of the construction industry such as architecture, quantity surveying and estimating.

The programme complements other schemes such as Gateway, careers and transition programmes, work experience and Young Enterprise.

Here are the students hard at work on the tables during construction.

  1. Hi there

I have been admiring the tables when visited the other day. The young people who were sitting at then told me al about it and how much they love them.
What a great idea. Are you selling them yet?
