Happy New Year!!
It is very exciting here at Tamaki College!! Christine, one of our Year 13 students has had a very bust start to the new year. She has travelled all the way to Canada to visit a school over there and live with a family. I don't want to tell you much and will leave it up to Christine herself. She is going to send regular updates about her activities so go and check out her blog page!!!

Graduation and Leaver's Dinner...
The Year 13 students had a good time this week at Tamaki College. The Graduation Ceremony was held in the auditorium. With parents and families there to support them, the graduating Year 13 students filed into the auditorium where they were awarded their graduation certificate and photograph. A new element this year was the graduation sash that they all got to keep too.
After the ceremony, everyone got on the bus to Butterfly Creek for the Leavers Dinner. They all got to watch the crocodile feeding show while they were there.

Day 3 of year 9 activities here at Tamaki College saw everyone going off to Rainbow's End. The bad weather did not put anyone off going on the rides and a fantastic day was had by all..

Year 9 Activities Day 1...
It's that time of year again here at Tamaki College.
Year 9 students are celebrating the end of the school year by doing some exciting activities over the next few days.
Today they went ice skating and to the cinema.

Film Festival 09 !!!!
It's that time of the year again!
It's our cluster film festival today and we are all exited to be gathering in the auditorium to watch each others films.

SELL Programme 2009
TAMAKI COLLEGE
YEAR 12 BUSINESS PROGRAMME
For three days in August, 80 Year 12 students swapped the class room setting to participate in the SELL Programme, run by the Young Enterprise Trust. A business programme which tested leadership abilities, patience and team work.
SELL stands for Student Enterprise Learning Link hosted by Ewan Mcleod and Sue Jury. All year 12 students involved were split into 10 groups of 8. These were our final groups for the next three days.
Each group was made to come up with a product, how it would be marketed, the financial point behind it and how it would be made. Teams were lead by their CEO and after the first day all students had their products and team set. The different inventions and products that were thought up were extremely creative! Ideas ranging from an alarm clock pillow, a portable hairstyling comb to a portable microwave! The fun had begun along with three days of pure hard work.
Day 2
On the second day of SELL, the real hard work began, you could even say, the competition had begun! Each team member was allocated a role, either as a Strategic Planner, Financial Advisor, Marketing Planner or a Production Advisor. All roles were given a task to complete that was vital in the completion of the company project. And it was here on in, that the ball started rolling. For an entire day, the CEOs were pushed to use as much of their leadership potential as they could. Getting yourself on track is one thing, but when you have to lead 7 other students who you may not even be used to working with, that’s a whole different story! Each and every role was demanding and tested each and every one of us mentally. We were made to think BUSINESS!
Day 3
The final day was do or die! It was judgement day... Teams were given two hours to decorate their located areas and set up boards with information on their product. All the hard work was settled down to this one day. We were all given time to breathe and then judging begun. Teams were given ten minutes to present their product to the judges, explaining every fine detail possible. The sense of competition created an awesome atmosphere and brought a lot of the teams closer together. The judges tallied their votes and at the end of the day found the product “OFF HEELS”, which are removable high heels as the winning product.
Overall the SELL programme was an amazing experience. It emphasised the importance of team work showing how every one has to do their bit in order to complete the project. CEOs were pushed to their limits to show leadership skills and to lead the team. We all learnt the importance of patience and working together to get things done. We were able to be hands on and experience all these things through SELL. It was an amazing learning experience.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Sue and Ewan for granting us with this amazing opportunity! And to all the staff who helped out.

Health Expo have a great day !!!
On Monday the 3rd of August, Tamaki College hosted a group of health representatives during its first ever, Health Expo. Along with group displays on diabetes and environment issues run by Tamaki College students, there were people from the Asthma Society, Family Planning, HELP (Sexual Abuse survivors), Smokefree and Odyssey House. The Heart Foundation provided interesting displays on fat and sugar levels in commonly eaten foods and alcohol issues were covered by Al-Anon and Community Drug & Alcohol Services. Information on mental health was provided by the Kari Centre.
Throughout the day, students were able to get information from all of the organisations and increase their knowledge around keeping a healthy body and mind. The day was very successful and our nurses Tania and Chris did a great job in organising the expo.

What a Great Assembly!!!!
Powhiri...
We had a fantastic assembly here at Tamaki College.
It started with a small Powhiri for our exchange student from Canada. Sarah Rosenblat has come from Branksome Hall, in Toronto, Canada. She is staying at Emma's house for 4 weeks on her part of the exchange programme.
The Kapa haka group put on a great Powhiri for Sarah as she came into her first assmebly....

Girls Rugby League Champions...
During this assembly, the school had the opportunity to honour our girls rugby league team.
They are winners of the Auckland Rugby League LVD Shield for 2009.
