Cross Country 2012
It was a lovely afternoon today and all of our Year 9 and 10 students went over to the Point England reserve for the anual cross country.
There were 4 races, year 9 girls, year 9 boys, year 10 girls and year 10 boys. Points were awarded for all those who finished so it was well worth all members of a tutor class to enter, so they would have more chance to win!
Staff were also involved in the races, and some got dressed up for the event. Water guns and water bombs might have made an appearance by certain staff!

55th Reunion Celebration.
It was a fun night last night at Tamaki College. Students from when the school was first opened came back for a 55th anniversary reunion. The auditorium was set up with school photographs from past years in the 1950's and 1960's and people were soon labeling them with the names that they remembered. It was a very busy event with lots of happy meetings between old friends.
The Tamaki College catering class did a fabulous job of keeping everyone supplied with very tasty treats all night. They had spent all day preparing everything fresh.
Next year's prefects had their first job. They were greeting people as they arrived at the college and escorted them to the auditorium. Lots of stories were being told to the students on those walks from the car parks.
A fun point of the night was recreating the school photographs from various years, starting from 1957.

Prefect Handover Ceremony.
We had an emotional assembly today at Tamaki College. It is that time of year when the new prefects for next year are announced.
It was a different process this year, where the Year 12 students had to apply for the post. They then had to go through an interview process and the successful applicants were then put forward to be voted on by the school.
This year's leaders presented the new Prefects and House Captains, one at a time. Family and friends had been invited to the assembly, so it was noisy, cheerful event.

It was very exciting here at Tamaki College today. We had a visit from the NZ Navy in a Seasprite helicopter. The students were out on the field to welcome it down, then they were allowed to gather round for a closer look and to ask the pilots any questions that they liked.
Here is a short video of the helicopter landing and taking off and some photographs around the helicopter.

Junior Social
Last night was the Junior Social here at Tamaki College.
Here is some feedback from some of the students who attended.
I went to the Junior Social and it was absolutely EPIC.
I enjoyed every second of it because it was fun, energetic and the night just had took my breath away.
I went to Junior Social yesterday and it was amazing, but the sound was too loud and it nearly broke my ears. Many students enjoyed it a lot and they were very happy when they were dancing. It started at 6:30, and ended at 9:30, I playing in the DJ booth and with the lights.
Social was extremely fun. It was buzzing and very energetic.
Last night there was a junior social. It was very fun and exciting.
Junior social was fun because I had never been to something like that before, so it was a new experience for me. One of the awesome things about this social is that we (the juniors) get to chose the music they play and this meant most of us liked the music.
The junior social was such hectic event! There were so many people there, dancing, singing and simply just having a good time.

Careers and Open Evening
It has been a really busy night here at Tamaki College. We held a combined careers and open evening.
There were lots of external providers of courses and information set up on the Marae for students and parents to look round and gather loads of really useful information for their future plans. Also there was the music department providing great entertainment, a sausage sizzle and a bouncy castle for the little ones.
After visiting there, parents were welcome to tour the school where all the departments were open with displays and information about courses and choices.
Here are some photos from the night...
Here is what some of out seniors get up to while waiting for parents to direct.... practicing their polyfest moves...

Internet Safety
Tamaki College students are really lucky having the opportunity to work with their new netbooks this year. What they need to realize is the importance of being safe online while they are working.
TCTV have been out and about asking people what they think is important about being safe on the internet.
The video is presented by Dose.

The Web Ellis Cup comes to Tamaki College...
We had such an exciting time here at Tamaki College when the Rugby World Cup roadshow came to see us. The whole school was in the auditorium for the main presentation, where they saw ex Tamaki students talk about how well they were doing with rugby. A video was played of Sonny Bill Williams talking about commitment to the game and quizzes were done, where 2 lucky winners got to come on stage to hold the cup.
After that, the school went into whanau groups to practice their athletics chants. While that was happening, the cup was brought round to each group for photographs and a closer look.
We laso had visitors from our local primary and intermediate schools to come and see the cup. you can see them in the photographs too.
