It was a hot day and the whole school was out on the field for the 2014 Athletics Competition. The services academy had done a great job of setting everything up and the teams were raring to go. The whanau's marched on and performed their chants in front of everyone else. Then the competition was really on. House pride was the order of the day with the crowds yelling their support for the competitors. Family and friends came to support too, also wearing the correct colours for their houses. Kowhai took it out with a convincing win on points.

Chant practice.....

It must be Athletics time of year again....
No spoilers for tomorrow, so no videos, but chant practice was on this afternoon and all four whanau groups were working hard to get it right for tomorrow. The prefects and senior leaders had the rest of the students all sorted out with words and actions and the competitive spirit was loud around the school.
TCTV will be there to catch all the action.

Thursday 13th February saw the launch of the 2014 Tamaki College Trades Academy.

The Trades Academy is now proud to offer four programme streams this year; automotive engineering, building and construction, catering and hospitality and digital technologies.

Trades Academy students and their parents enjoyed the opportunity to hear from past and recent graduates from the programme, including Victor Pupuo (who has secured a job with North Power) and Waiora Mihaka and Fineeva Taufalele (who were appointed Prefects for 2014).

Special guests included Dr Nikki Carter and Missy Herbert from the Manaiakalani Education Trust, who spoke about importance of Drivers Licences and some of the skills employers require for students to be work ready and the school's living Toanga, our Kaumatu, Mr Wally Noble, who spoke about his experiences as qualified tradesman.

The evening concluded in true Tamaki College fashion with something to eat.
